Can I say hello even if I don't know anything about Hetalia, baseball or sports blackouts?

I do know about people with a baffling interest in watching very boring sports. I used to have a FiL who was addicted to watching golf on television. That was pretty dismal. To his credit, he liked to play golf and was quite good at it, so he wasn't just a sofa-athlete.
