jedishampoo: (bloo dance)
[livejournal.com profile] sharpeslass Netflixed "Howl's Moving Castle" for us, and OhMyGosh I fell in love with this movie! I hadn't seen it yet; I love Miyazaki (well, except for Princess Mononoke, ick) but it looked so much like "Castle in the Sky" that I hadn't been in a hurry to watch it.

It had all the usually Miyazaki components: sweeping score, wonderful animation, redemption of characters, something bulbous and evil losing its powers, and a Message (this time it was "war is bad"). Unlike most of his other stuff, however, it was based on a book already written, this time on a young adults book by Diana Wynne Jones. I had to go buy the book instantly. I can't say I loved the book as much as the movie; I personally like the Miyazaki touches.

It was also a little more "adult" than his other stuff, not in tone, but in that he's dealing with mostly adult characters rather than the prepubescent set. There was even a romance!

::sigh:: I loved it so very much. :) Anyone else see it?
