Oooh, there is certainly some interesting anime out there right now. I hadn't watched anything new really in years, not since Cowboy Bebop or Miyazaki. My roomie is not the biggest anime fan but she has NETFLIX! so she is kind enough to get some of the series for me. Seriously, how could anyone buy anime without having seen it first? It's expensive as hell, even at Best Buy. Argh. Which reminds me of a hysterical bumper sticker I did see at Worldcon: "Anime: Crack would be cheaper". No Sh*t.

Samurai Champloo was really, really good. Hip-hop in feudal Japan. Loved all the episodes; great animation, adultish, great characters, loved the story. Loved the portrayal of Americans in feudal Japan. I had the hots for Jin. I wish there was a second series. And I just started Fullmetal Alchemist last night. Very cool concept, studying alchemy as one might study magic, though lots of anime does have that science vs. magic theme going. Sorta childish animation here and there, at least it seems so after watching Samurai Champloo. But I do love that little boy's voice in the giant suit of armor. It makes me rather sentimental.

Happy Veteran's day to everyone and a shout out to our veterans. Of course Veteran's day is actually tomorrow but we're off work for it today. :)

I also loved Samurai Champloo, and wish there was a sequel...although with the way most animes end, I'm also glad they didn't die.

Fullmetal Alchemist does start off light-hearted, but then it turns more serious a few episodes in. It doesn't mean the comedy goes away, but it's more evenly distributed. :)

Woo! Exactly; I was so happy at the end of Samurai Champloo simply because everyone didn't die. I really really liked that last episode of Cowboy Bebop, with Spike telling the story and the angst of it all and Spike and Vicious fighting with a gun and a sword. The first time I saw it I thought, naw, Spike's not really dead. Then I rewatched it. Yup, there were plenty of clues. Spike was dead. DARNIT what a downer. I was half afraid Jin and Mugen would off each other. :)

I've Blockbustered disc two of Fullmetal Alchemist since I couldn't wait for Netflix. I'm really looking forward to getting into more of it.
