Doujinshi sold by their creators, either at Comic Markets in Japan, stores in Japan or on their personal websites, are not expensive. I'm talking five bucks or so, here.
It's when doujinshi sell out or are hard to find in the US that you encounter high prices from re-sellers. I sell my extras on E-bay, but I usually try to start them out at what I paid.
