Random Post of Randomness! Shopping!
Oct. 31st, 2010 02:35 amSo since I couldn't go to Y-con in the Bay Area, I went shopping with my mommy instead and we bought lots of stuff. I was invited to a costume party but all my costumes are in storage.
So I hung out with my friend Shane, and we watched what I call an "edifying movie." See, I'm mostly a surface movie enjoyer-- especially of sci-fi flicks and cheesy kung-fu movies and stupid comedies-- but not a movie buff. I don't always understand Film (note the capital "F"). But there are those Films that exist and are famous and so should be watched. Some I enjoy, like "To Kill a Mockingbird." Some I do not enjoy, like Citizen Kane.
Tonight Shane and I watched Apocalypse Now. I watched the movie mostly like O_o and sometimes like this X_X (closing my eyes). Mostly, though, like O_o. I just didn't get it. One thing I did get, however: I'd always thought Emilio Estevez and Charlie Sheen were good-looking, but they DO NOT HOLD A CANDLE to their dad when he was young. Holy crap, Martin Sheen was a hottie back in the 70s.
But anyway, back to the shopping.
I bought a cute new purse, and got a screaming deal on it, too (Priscilla the Pink Coach Bag needs to be cleaned before I can carry her again.):

I needed winter clothing badly; I lived in a warm place for eight years. And I discovered that clothing by Michael Kors fits me INSTANTLY and looks fabulous without hassle, and this makes me happy. And I realized after I got home that everything I bought was in a black/brown/tan color scheme, d'oh!

I bought a new winter coat!

And lastly, I bought me and my mommmy a little eyebrow-shaping by the Indian ladies in the mall. I am so pleased with my newly shaped eyebrows (go Eyes by India! Woot!):

Sigh, my life is so exciting, hee! HAPPY HALLOWEEN, EVERYONE!

Date: 2010-10-31 10:25 am (UTC)I totally agree with you about Citizen Kane -- it's probably the best movie I'll never like. I think it has to do with my not giving a crap about any of the characters.
*waves* Happy Halloween to you, too! I hope to post later, but my daughter is dressing up as America from Hetalia, and some of her other friends are dressing up as Hetalia characters, including Russia and Canada.

Totally agree about MS; though Apocalypse Now is very very disturbing. But then again, pretty much everything I've ever seen with Marlon Brando is disturbing.

Date: 2010-11-01 01:07 am (UTC)As far as the films go, I would say I am pretty much a movie buff (my husband marvels at my seemingly-bottomless pit of knowledge regarding film stars from the 30's onwards.) XD But I never have been able to make it all the way through Citizen Kane without at least starting to fall asleep, and have always thought it was vastly overrated. You really should see the next movie he directed, The Magnificent Ambersons, which is a MUCH better movie, not just in my opinion, but in the eye of many critics who feel it is at least as good at CK, if not better.
I have also never been as big a fan of Apocalypse now as some film afficionadoes are: I find it visually stunning, but all-in-all a bit overwrought and heavy-handed, as many of Coppola's films tend to be (in my opinion - many would argue, of course.) For my money, Platoon was a much better film, and probably a far more accurate portrayal of what the Viet Nam War was like for the American troops. And you do get a young, handsome Charlie Sheen in it, if not his dad...
Hope you had a good Halloween!

Date: 2010-11-02 01:05 am (UTC)Dude--have email for you but I'm sort of exhausted at the moment. Here's highlights:
1) Too tired to enjoy Ycon this year
2) Japan rules
3) Hooked on Hetalia thanks to the AMV we watched (and you.)
Ha!

Date: 2010-11-04 02:01 am (UTC)I need more color, though! I did find some awesome red shoes, but they had to get my size from another store. :) If I get them I'll have to take pictures; they're ADORABLE. Squee!
