I'm trying to write fic, but I keep getting distracted by things like world news-- man, the Pacific and especially Japan were hit hard, and here's hoping for quick relief. And I'm distracted by food. I made Belgian waffles this morning, because I promised my mom that if she bought me a waffle-maker, I'd make waffles. So here they are:

And I'm also trying to plan my and Mom's trip to Yellowstone in late May. Sheooot, there are so many things to consider. I would prefer just to find a company that takes you from airport to hotel to the park and around it. Anyone know of any? Does anyone have any Yellowstone Park travel tips? We'll probably stay in Cody, WY a couple of days, too, just to experience all the cheesy Wild West fun that we can.

Other than that, Happy Saturday! :)

Those look yummy! Did you eat them with toppings or syrup?

I went to Yellowstone last year! It's FABULOUS. Utterly wonderful. I would happily live in the Upper Geyser Basin. We also stayed in Cody ... Eeee! If there's anything in particular you want to know, please ask. We hired a car so I don't know about transport service to the park.

Thank you! I got some real, Vermont maple syrup, and it was expensive but tasty! ♥

Hee, actually, your descriptions of your trip are what spurred me to think of taking Mom to Yellowstone for a "post-chemo" present. I asked her and she enthusiastically agreed.

Oh, where did you stay in Cody? I was looking at this place: http://www.thecody.com/ It says "luxury" but it's really not expensive. And are there old-west towns and rodeos and stuff? :)

We stayed here because it was nearest to the airport and we had an early flight home. We had a rental car, so we drove back into Cody to enjoy the night life. We were only there for one night, so we didn't get chance to see much, so I'm not sure about rodeos.

During tourist season, there's this silly show outside the Irma hotel. It's kind of fake gun-slinging. Very loud, very daft and best of all it's free! :)

We drove from Portland to Yellowstone, and then via the Wapiti Valley into Cody. Beautiful journey the whole way. Much to my amazement, the US proved quite pretty! :)

If you can stay in Yellowstone park, I really recommend it. We stayed in one of the hut things, right beside Old Faithful - and OF never got old. I think we saw it erupt 9 times and it was brilliant every time. I'm not religious, but that whole basin just filled me with awe.

The Old Faithful Inn is a cracking place too, though kind of primitive by modern standards. Also very expensive. The other place is the snow lodge, which has all mod cons (bathrooms! heating!). Only last night we were fondly imaginging staying there during the winter ...

Mmmmmmmmm...waffles..... I ADORE breakfast food, especially pancakes and waffles. Mr. hg knows if he ever wants to really cheer me up or get on my good side, an offer of a trip to IHOP is a quick and easy (and cheap) way to do it. I get the breakfast stuff even for dinner - an omelet for dinner and have the pancakes or waffles for dessert! nom nom nom nom nom nom.... Makes me hungry just thinking about it, and I just finished dinner! Lately I have really gotten into sweet potato waffles and pancakes - they may be a tie with fresh blueberry for favorite kind.

Ironically, real maple syrup is kind of lost on me. I had a New England grandmother who used to bring me scads of maple sugar candy every time she came down (that, and salt water taffy - UCK!) and I od'd on it and haven't really cared for it since. In my head I know it's good, but the gut reaction is still...ugh.

SO jealous of the Yellowstone trip! Going out to SD, Yellowstone, and Montana is something we have wanted to do... well, pretty much as long as we have known each other. But it's such a way for us, and there is so much we want to do, it's going to be a two or three week thing when we go, so it's going to be another few years. I can't wait to hear your report - and of course see lots of pictures! My daughter and her wife went to the Grand Canyon on one of their trips out west last year, and seeing all their pictures was so wonderful.

James and I did Yellowstone and it was a fabulous trip. We rented a vehicle and drove from the airport, and stayed the entire week inside the Park. I would suggest that if you can stay inside the park, then do. We stayed in the Old Faithful area, then did day excursions out to different areas of the Park during the week.

My favorite spots, and thus those I would recommend as a must see, include Old Faithful and Mammoth Hot Springs areas. We saw wildlife throughout the Park, but saw more variety in the northern areas, especially around Lamar Valley.

When are you planning the trip? Be mindful of areas that might be closed due to the weather. We were there in mid-May and there was still a good bit of snow and some of the roads were closed. You can check websites for info on weather related info. I found this national park service site to be quite helpful.

Breakfast food is one I'm really good at making, moreso than other foods, sometimes, and I agree about omelets for dinner-- yum!

I've never been to Wyoming, so I'm sort of excited to go, not only to do that but to see all the cool geothermal stuff. :) I'll definitely have pictures! I just hope it isn't too cold.

Oh, thanks! We're thinking the end-ish of May, and I was hoping it wouldn't be too cold but I guess we can deal with it. :)

We want to stay in the park, like you said-- we just have to get off our butts and start making reservations!

::hugs::

Well, it may depend on what kind of winter they have had, how much snow may still be around in May. They'd had an unusual late snow before we arrived for our visit. But I recall most areas of the park being quite comfortable and only one area was really closed - that road that runs right up the middle (I'm blanking on the name). Again, if you check websites about the park, they should have listings of any areas that may be closed during times of the year.

Happy planning and safe travels. You will have a blast!
