I spent a lot of money and I am spoiled

Money! I wish I had it. I don't know if I've said this here before, but I knew that when I bought a house, I would have only a limited amount of spending money. I just didn't realize that all of that spending money would be spent on stuff for the house. D'oh! But I'll tell you about some of the exciting things I've gotten. ;)
I had a broken window replaced ($290). I just called a chimney repairman. I bought a new gas range! I suspect that the one that came with this house was probably brought here from another, previous house, because it's really old. None of the indicator lights work, a couple of the dials are broken, and the dials that are not broken are worn off so I can't read them. I've been cooking by guestimation and observation of flame heights.
It's been working, but once I realized that I sometimes didn't know when my oven was OFF that it was time to just spend the money for one. So after a trip to the local HH Gregg (appliance store) and seeing how much the things cost, I decided to try the Sears Outlet and bought a scratch-n-dent. It's brand-new and a very nice range, with cast iron on top, a warranty, and a dent on the side that NO ONE will ever see because it'll be tucked away into its cubby-hole in my kitchen yay! And it only cost me $350, plus delivery and installation (very reasonable).
And admittedly I did whip out my (formerly paid-off) Macy's card for a shoe sale. I haven't really shoe- or clothes-shopped all summer, so I went a little nuts. I bought five pairs of shoes! But they were on clearance! I got me some Kenenth Coles and some Anne Kleins and some saucy gold, strappy Joan & David heels:

And I'm such a lucky girl to have such nice parents; Mom will be here on Wednesday to meet the stove-installer and Dad has agreed to meet the chimney-man later in the week. Mom took my car to the auto place today. They paid for dinner when I showed up tonight (Chinese takeout). Mom bought me a ton of yard stuff - landscaping fabric and anchors and recycled rubber mulch (I can't stand wood mulch) - and she helped me put the stuff all over my hill to keep the weeds out until I can find some plants next spring. I am SO SPOILED.
Oh! Oh! Speaking of, I've found an awesome grass/ground-cover that I want a few clumps of for my hill: Japanese Forest Grass. A neighbor has some and it's lovely. Here's some info on it: http://www.rainyside.com/plant_gallery/grasses/Hakonechloa_macraAureola.html
Have a great week, everyone!

Date: 2011-09-13 02:00 am (UTC)The grass disappears in winter, unfortunately, but comes back and spreads a little, so a few scattered clumps it might work on some of the hillier portions of my yard to keep the weeds away! :)

Date: 2011-09-14 05:48 pm (UTC)Man, the weather has gotten cooler and I'm wondering if those gold strappy heels will be good for much longer, woe. I'd better wear them quickly. And the black ones are SO TARTY, RIGHT? I luvs them.

Date: 2011-09-13 02:29 am (UTC)I just saw a card at Walgreens. It played a song, I forget which, and was something like "Life is short. Buy the shoes."
You have it good, and I know you show your parents your appreciation. :-)
ETA: Yay for safer gas cooking as long as it is installed correctly! Do you already have a carbon monoxide detector? That would be a good investment both for now and forever, especially giving you peace of mind that it was installed correctly.

Date: 2011-09-14 05:50 pm (UTC)Oh, I bought two smoke detectors but didn't get one for carbon monoxide... I'll have to look at them at Menard's, see how much they are!
♥ Have fun with your new clothes!

Date: 2011-09-13 02:35 am (UTC)I like the ground cover - it looks a little like the variegated liriope, but kind of taller and leggier. You are very fortunate that your parents are so kind and forthcoming with assistance. Mine have always had it to give, but never been all that willing - it has always been sparsely and very grudgingly provided, for the most part. *sigh* My father was a big believer in the "you made your bed/sink or swim" school of parenting - not a lot of helping out in that view of things, generally speaking. The good news is, my expectations were always low, and the rare times they have come through now and then, it's always an unexpected and pleasant surprise. Shortly after dad died mom bought me this laptop when she heard mine was dying an agonizing death - I almost had the feeling it was her way of apologizing for all the years dad wouldn't help when he knew I needed it. (I took it and ran, of course! ^_______^ )

Date: 2011-09-14 06:07 pm (UTC)And good for your mom helping you out... sorry to hear they were not always so generous, but I guess people do things their own ways, sometimes. My family was always a very "get over yourself" family - as in, sensitive princes and princesses were not coddled. But on the other hand, I can't think of anything they wouldn't do for me and my brother. (Sometimes I wish they'd kick my brother out of the house, though, so he could get by on his own self.)

Date: 2011-09-13 01:49 pm (UTC)I love those shoes. What a difference from the chunky clunkers (with 6" heels) that we get to ignore.
And that grass is pretty! It looks so natural and fresh.

Date: 2011-09-14 06:12 pm (UTC)The grass would be a great thing for the base of trees or bushes, I think.

Date: 2011-09-13 02:26 pm (UTC)But, then again, you get stupidly excited about things like a new stove. :)

Date: 2011-09-13 03:42 pm (UTC)I'm glad you found some good buys on shoes so you didn't feel like you were spending all your money on the house. And hurrah for a good deal on the stove!

Date: 2011-09-15 02:35 am (UTC)But the stove is totally, totally worth it. Tonight? I pushed a button and the OVEN CAME ON. It was amazing. (My old one was really, really old. It was entirely analog and dials.)
