Money! I wish I had it. I don't know if I've said this here before, but I knew that when I bought a house, I would have only a limited amount of spending money. I just didn't realize that all of that spending money would be spent on stuff for the house. D'oh! But I'll tell you about some of the exciting things I've gotten. ;)

I had a broken window replaced ($290). I just called a chimney repairman. I bought a new gas range! I suspect that the one that came with this house was probably brought here from another, previous house, because it's really old. None of the indicator lights work, a couple of the dials are broken, and the dials that are not broken are worn off so I can't read them. I've been cooking by guestimation and observation of flame heights.

It's been working, but once I realized that I sometimes didn't know when my oven was OFF that it was time to just spend the money for one. So after a trip to the local HH Gregg (appliance store) and seeing how much the things cost, I decided to try the Sears Outlet and bought a scratch-n-dent. It's brand-new and a very nice range, with cast iron on top, a warranty, and a dent on the side that NO ONE will ever see because it'll be tucked away into its cubby-hole in my kitchen yay! And it only cost me $350, plus delivery and installation (very reasonable).

And admittedly I did whip out my (formerly paid-off) Macy's card for a shoe sale. I haven't really shoe- or clothes-shopped all summer, so I went a little nuts. I bought five pairs of shoes! But they were on clearance! I got me some Kenenth Coles and some Anne Kleins and some saucy gold, strappy Joan & David heels:

And I'm such a lucky girl to have such nice parents; Mom will be here on Wednesday to meet the stove-installer and Dad has agreed to meet the chimney-man later in the week. Mom took my car to the auto place today. They paid for dinner when I showed up tonight (Chinese takeout). Mom bought me a ton of yard stuff - landscaping fabric and anchors and recycled rubber mulch (I can't stand wood mulch) - and she helped me put the stuff all over my hill to keep the weeds out until I can find some plants next spring. I am SO SPOILED.

Oh! Oh! Speaking of, I've found an awesome grass/ground-cover that I want a few clumps of for my hill: Japanese Forest Grass. A neighbor has some and it's lovely. Here's some info on it: http://www.rainyside.com/plant_gallery/grasses/Hakonechloa_macraAureola.html

Have a great week, everyone!

SHOES! Those are cuuuuute. I love the strappy gold sandals (sassy!)and the black flats especially. But they're all fab.

Also, I love that grass! I want some for our yard, dammit! But Ebelskiver would just eat it because he's a jerk.

Eeeee! The black flats are the Kenneth Coles; they're patent and sooooo soft I can't believe it. And they were a screaming deal. ;)

The grass disappears in winter, unfortunately, but comes back and spreads a little, so a few scattered clumps it might work on some of the hillier portions of my yard to keep the weeds away! :)

I just ordered a ton of clothes from Macys online and am eagerly awaiting my Nordstrom card so I can put my order through there. Can't wait to try on all the coats.

I just saw a card at Walgreens. It played a song, I forget which, and was something like "Life is short. Buy the shoes."

You have it good, and I know you show your parents your appreciation. :-)

ETA: Yay for safer gas cooking as long as it is installed correctly! Do you already have a carbon monoxide detector? That would be a good investment both for now and forever, especially giving you peace of mind that it was installed correctly.

Oooh, Nordstrom. I've been avoiding clothes shopping, mostly because of having other bills, but yes, the shoes were too good a deal and as you mentioned, life is too short. ;)

Oh, I bought two smoke detectors but didn't get one for carbon monoxide... I'll have to look at them at Menard's, see how much they are!

♥ Have fun with your new clothes!

About $20. Definitely worth it. (When I was in grade school, my mother's cousin came home from work to find all three of her children dead in their beds from CO poisoning from a malfunctioning something, which has haunted me since. They just felt sleepy and lay down for naps, I guess.)

PS I was momentarily confused if I was replying to my own comment given the icon. Haha!

That's a great deal on the stove - we had this house switched to gas (propane, since we is country mice) so we could get a gas stove, and now we have a gas clothes dryer as well, and I ADORE both of them, as much as one can reasonably love electrical appliances. I fricking hate electric stoves, and the one that was here was an old Jenn-Air that was probably hot shit in its day (half of it was a grill) but, excuse me, I need FOUR burners, not two and a grill! And it was electric. Bleh.

I like the ground cover - it looks a little like the variegated liriope, but kind of taller and leggier. You are very fortunate that your parents are so kind and forthcoming with assistance. Mine have always had it to give, but never been all that willing - it has always been sparsely and very grudgingly provided, for the most part. *sigh* My father was a big believer in the "you made your bed/sink or swim" school of parenting - not a lot of helping out in that view of things, generally speaking. The good news is, my expectations were always low, and the rare times they have come through now and then, it's always an unexpected and pleasant surprise. Shortly after dad died mom bought me this laptop when she heard mine was dying an agonizing death - I almost had the feeling it was her way of apologizing for all the years dad wouldn't help when he knew I needed it. (I took it and ran, of course! ^_______^ )

I think my water heater and clothes dryer are also gas! Good thing, 'cause gas is cheaper than electricity.

And good for your mom helping you out... sorry to hear they were not always so generous, but I guess people do things their own ways, sometimes. My family was always a very "get over yourself" family - as in, sensitive princes and princesses were not coddled. But on the other hand, I can't think of anything they wouldn't do for me and my brother. (Sometimes I wish they'd kick my brother out of the house, though, so he could get by on his own self.)

Your parents sound very cool, and VERY unlike mine. Sometime, if you're interested, I'll email you with a brief rundown of what my childhood was like - I know compared to lots of people who were molested, didn't get enough to eat, etc, we had it pretty good, but there were still a lot of damages, and it's taken me this long to figure out just how much (can you say denial?) It's been a journey to learn to accept it all as simply being what it was, and learn to forgive them - still working on that one, but almost there. It's a blow to your ego to realize, at a few years into their fifth decade, that you are still being affected by shit from your childhood you should have gotten over a long time ago! *lol* But better to realize it and deal with it, I guess, than just carry it around and do nothing.

Terrific deal on that stove. Good snag!

I love those shoes. What a difference from the chunky clunkers (with 6" heels) that we get to ignore.

And that grass is pretty! It looks so natural and fresh.

Thank you! And oh, man, I remember the chunky clunkers that came back in the 90s... Doctor Marten-type stuff. Yeah, I had 'em. But boy, do I love heels. I finally got over being "too tall" for heels in my 30s and wear almost nothing else. :)

The grass would be a great thing for the base of trees or bushes, I think.

Yeah. Owning a home is expensive. There's always something.

But, then again, you get stupidly excited about things like a new stove. :)

I am incredibly excited about the new stove... more than the shoes, even. I can't wait to get home and use it tonight. NEW STOVE ALL MINE MINE! Hee.

Heh, welcome to the world of homeownership.

I'm glad you found some good buys on shoes so you didn't feel like you were spending all your money on the house. And hurrah for a good deal on the stove!

Yes! It was nice to buy something to make my feet feel cute. :) And the stove is AWESOME. It's like cooking in heaven. (And it's nothing special - merely modern.)

Woo! I'm so glad I gave the outlet store a try. Mom and I, in fact, were shocked at the great prices on stuff. I got a full set of queen-sized sheets for $15! (Hee, you know we shop too much at Macy's when stuff like that excites us.)

Hee, I'm 6' tall so I MUST wear heels. I spent too much of my youth wearing flats. :)

(Though I'll admit that sometimes I regret wearing certain shoes to work... ouch.)

Thank you! Hee, though I never expected this level of poorness!

But the stove is totally, totally worth it. Tonight? I pushed a button and the OVEN CAME ON. It was amazing. (My old one was really, really old. It was entirely analog and dials.)

Yeah! I hope I can find some of that plant around. I found out about it first because I saw a neighbor of my parents had planted it... if I can't find it in the nurseries I may have to do a ninja mission to steal theirs!

(Just kidding, of course.) :)
