Fwee! I have been enjoying me some anime and manga, for sure. Totally!



I'm up through episode 19 of Tiger & Bunny, because Shane agreed to mainline five episodes with me last night. OMG, what a serious turn this has taken. Poor Sky High! And I have realized how very attached to Kotetsu I've become, because I was breaking my heart for the poor guy. And I even felt sorry for Barnaby in his encounter with Maverick; I had not until then really gotten too attached to Bunny. (And of course we left off on that cliffhanger, with Bunny's memories about to be supplanted... ::bites nails::)

But really, what a great show this is. It has great characters, a fun premise, exciting action, and an incredible amount of heart.

Though... I'll admit that so far, for me, I'm not feeling the Bunny/Kotetsu; I'm an inveterate slasher but I swear, if Karina was just a little bit older I'd be shipping her and Kotetsu like it was my job. I'm sort of doing it sekritly anyway. ::gulp:: Okay, not so sekritly.

And then there's Bleach! Thanks again to conjure_lass, I have the manga issues 1-28, and I'm on 11. Holy crap, what an awesome book and cast of characters! I am pleased by how much I like Ichigo; usually in these "young-man-action-centric" manga I just do not care for the main-young-man characters - i.e., Naruto - but I think Ichigo is a fun and loveable dork with balls of steel. Rukia is awesome, the others are awesome, and basically, in both T&B and Bleach, I don't think there's a character I don't like.

And I'm totally shipping Ichigo and Rukia. Again, where's the hoyay? I am feeling so het I'm starting to worry that I've lost my slash goggles. ;) There do seem to be a lot of hot new man-characters showing up on Soul-Reaper world, so we'll see.

(Just teasing, of course; for me, shipping is about the characters, not their chromosomes. Sometimes I just don't ship anyone.)

THIS. I like T&B but I don't read fanfiction because I'm just not interested in the stuff that's available. I just can't ship Barnaby and Kotetsu, I like them as friends. As for Karina, the age difference puts me off, so I kinda ship her and Kotetsu in a one-sided-crush sort of way.


As for Bleach - well. The beginning is amazing and the first arch is a work of genius - one of the best Xanatos Gambits I've ever seen. Unfortunately it goes downhill from there. I'm up-to-date with the chapters and to be honest I read it out of habit (and because of the secondary characters, haha). As for the hoyay, I know that there's some between Ichigo and Renji (at least there is in the anime) and between Ichigo and a couple of other characters but I don't want to spoil anything.^^

Yeah, I would probably feel too bad to, say, write smut for Karina and Kotetsu. But her crush is just too freaking adorable. :)

I've heard that Bleach has been up and down, but I'm really enjoying it so far and am glad to hear it's probably getting better again - so that means I might actually read up to the new stuff coming out.

I slash EVERYTHING it seems like sometimes but I have to agree with you on Bleach. I have been watching it for a long time now and I just don't slash Ichigo. He is so straight to me. I ship he and Rukia too even when I go through phases of not really liking Rukia. LOL

There are a couple of captians that are totally slashable. And I just want to see Renji naked. Period. *grins*

I wasn't a big fan of Bunny at first, though I did love the cranky mangsty emo and all that. But he really grew on me! And of all the characters, he's the one who changes the most over the course of the series. Yes, Kotetsu is my favorite, but he's basically always the same lovable, dorky, adorable, not-very-deep Kotetsu. He's the character that all the others revolve around, so to speak.

I agree that Barnaby has come a long way... he sort of falls back onto his "everything is awesome I'm awesome grin" thing but strip it away from him for a second and he just breaks. Poor guy.

I do hope Kotetsu gets to make it up with Kaede, somehow. :)

I agree with you. I think I mentioned to lauand and gracie_musica early on that I wasn't feeling the Kotetsu/Barnaby. And, earl on, I avoided reading fan fiction as well. It just wasn't compelling me.

It wasn't until my f-list (Phae, I'm looking at you!) started writing for the T&B fandom that I started reading fan fiction. I really cannot resist the draw of my own f-list. YOU ARE ALL SUCH TALENTED WRITERS! EVERY SINGLE ONE OF YOU! :) (And that includes YOU!)

Honestly, it took until about episode 23 for me to really start feeling the Kotetsu/Barnaby. I could "see" the slash right away, but I always felt like the relationship was more of a bromance than a sexual relationship. After about episode 23, I was a little more open to the idea. Still, my heart won't say OTP.

Then again, as I was saying to rroselavy the other day, nothing can trump 58 for me.

As for Bleach... I like Yoruichi/Soi Fon and Ukitake/Shunsui. None of the Ichigo pairings really call to me.

I think Kubo Tite is setting up for a canon Ichigo/Orihime, but I am really not feeling it. :(

I don't really see the Tiger/Barnaby yet myself, but then, I'm only about 3 episodes in.

As for Bleach, I will say that Ichigo/Rukia is my pairing of choice, though the fandom more than the source material led me to shipping Byakuya/Renji (I don't know if you have any idea what I'm talking about, yet) besides that, I sort of felt disappointed in my slash goggles, myself.

Dang, you make me want to read Bleach. I've only seen the anime, and my budget isn't going to run to Manga anytime in the next 65 years. *sighs* I've reached episode er... 156 (?) and while I thought I could outlast the incredible amount of fighting, I've finally hit saturation point. I'll have to give it a rest for the foreseeable future. The first arc is awesome though!

I will admit I'm totally a Ichigo/Ishida shipper with a side order of Renji and the occasional Shuuei (who you haven't met), but that only really extends to artwork. The fanfic isn't grabbing me.

OH, and T&B. I don't ship them either. It gets a bit shippy toward the last couple of episodes, which screams fanservice at me, but I look at it more of a fond sort of shippy thing, rather than an actual pairing. I just can't see it myself :)

Oh, I can only imagine the amount of fighting in the anime. I remember starting to fast-forward entire episodes of Ruruoni Kenshin just to get to the end of the goddamned fights.

You know, I watched 6 episodes of Tiger and Bunny and i was very happy with the skill and animation level and the original characterisation...until i met Barnaby T_T

Admittedly, I think it's true that there isn't a serious T&B subtext. It's just there to make fangirls (and boys) happy. But it's really such fun shipping them! Plus there's gorgeous fanart, fanfic, and even a kink meme. *shrugs*

I watched the first episode of Bleach, but it's still ongoing, so I decided not to invest my time. I followed Naruto for a while and I'm only coming back when they wrap up the one thread that matters to me.

I enjoy Bleach most of the time, but not always. My favorite slash pairing is Ikkakku/Yumichika. But my favorite character has become Rangiku.

Actually, I think I like Kotetsu & Barnaby as bosom buddies and besties just as much as anything actually slashy. They're like the anime version of bromance characters, really. I think they're super sexy together, but I'm totally cool with not slashing them. I think their relationship as partners and best friends is really nice too. Maybe my slash is wearing off too!!

Okay, with Bleach, though - don't worry! Bleach has such an insanely large cast that it's super easy to slash it without slashing Ichigo! That's part of what I liked about Bleach. I've lost any interest in the story, but there are so many slashy side characters to enjoy that I'll still peruse fanart every now and then. For instance, I think that Yumichika/Ikkaku is adorable and practically cannon. And so is Ukitake/Shunsui! So cute.

That's the plus side of having such a large cast! You can go for het couples and yaoi/yuri couples! I mean, who doesn't love Urahara with Yoruichi? Even the biggest slash fan has to admit that those two are meant for each other :D

Ha-ha! There are a few problems for me with the last few episodes of Tiger and Bunny, and the biggest one is that everything was stitched up too neatly. But I won't go into that until you've caught up completely.

I could write a shipping manifesto about Tiger and Bunny, but I won't. People are drawn to pairings based on their own inner rhymes and reasons, most of which have nothing to do at all with canon, and sometimes which have everything to do with canon, so what's the point? When I was into Harry Potter, I shipped Draco/Ginny like it was caramel apples at Hallowe'en. This was a couple that was never, ever, ever going to happen. But so what? I found the possibilities between them more interesting than the other ships that were being written.

It's funny because this isn't the first time you and I have been triangulated with our favourites ships, either. We seemed to spend much of our mutual time in Saiyuki in different rowboats.

I say make Karina the age where you would be comfortable at for shipping her with Tiger, and write that story! I'm sure it will be fantastic!

I'm a whole lot more slide-around-y with ships in Bleach. I can totally get Renji in all kinds of pairings. He's just a hot boy that way. I like him with Byakuya. I like him with Shuhei. I like him with Rukia.

But my favourite is definitely Ukitake/Shunsui. I love marriages that endure. That's what drew me to 5/8 in Saiyuki, too.

I like the possibilities that Ichigo/Rukia provides though, much better than Ichigo/Orihime. I also like Ichi/Stitchy and there was an Ichi/Renji that almost blew the top of my head off, it was so hot. If Orihime ever acquires a spine, I might be able to ship her with someone.

Oh, man, I just finished T&B and it was so much fun! So sappy and yet so sweet at the end! I do think they left it totally open for a second season. I'd like to see Kotetsu get his powers back, but his happily accepting what's happened was sort of awesome and mature of him as well.

And dude, at the end of the series it was a year later, so how old IS the girl, anyway? I mean, if she was 17, is she now 18? Where does one find these sorts of things out? Hee. I feel so bad - I couldn't stop squeeing at them.

You're so right that it's hard to decide why we 'ship what we do. I have noticed that my slash ships are usually the opposites-attract type; sometimes they're doomed and incredibly romantic as well, i.e., Anakin and Obi-Wan or Horatio Hornblower and the doomed Archie Kennedyc. For het I'm all about the TWOO WUV BABY. It's sickening, sort of. (Though I would have to admit in Potter, I secretly wished for Harry/Hermione. I just did not care for Ron very much.)

Ginny/Draco would actually have been lots more interesting than Harry/Ginny. :)
