Busy and not exploded

Well, if you heard about a big house explosion on the south side of Indianapolis, I wasn't in it. (Just found out this morning that the news even made it to BBC, wth?) Anyway, my house is about a mile and a half from where the explosion happened, and they still haven't figured out what caused it but they haven't shut off power or gas around here.

I felt it last night at my parents' house, which is another three miles away, though. I had just gotten back from a shopping trip to Chicago and I was walking Fuu, about 11 p.m., and there was a giant boom somewhere to the southeast. It was in the direction of my house, so we jumped in the car and zipped home to see everything okay here. I turned on the news when I got inside and there was a giant, uncontained fireball, and an entire neighborhood with houses either on fire or shaken apart, and people being evacuated. Eee, I hope it wasn't an accidental gas leak thing. Anyway, I had actually looked at a home in that neighborhood when I was home-searching! I sure hope the people there can get back home soon, and get their houses repaired quickly.

In other news, my friend and I are going to make a visit to the Indianapolis Art Museum today, whee! I haven't been there since I was in college, around 1999 or so. It's no Chicago Art Institute but they have some nice little collections. (My favorite in any art museum is usually the Medieval/Renaissance collection.)

Yikes! That's awful. I'm so glad it wasn't your house, though. Eesh. I hope they figure out what happened and that nobody was hurt.

Also, museum! I hope we get to hear all about it when you get back from your little outing.

It was pretty scary! That was one big boom. They still haven't pinpointed the reason, either. (Speculation is that the gas was purposefully left on and the house vacated; it was in foreclosure and the residents boarded their cat, went out of town and called the owner to say 'there's a furnace problem." next thing you know, boom, and some of the neighbors are dead and half the neighborhood is uninhabitable. If it was on purpose, I can't imagine they knew what could happen.

Holy cow! I saw that a house exploded in Indianapolis and you were the first person I thought of (of course)! That's horrible and it does sound like a gas explosion (or a meth lab explosion). I hope everyone is safe and the destruction can be cleared up quickly.

It was probably gas, but the investigation now is to whether it was on purpose or not. Eee!

I spent money in Chicago and then woe, I have to return stuff to the Macy's down here because of vet bills. Those pets, all needing attention and stuff.

The museum was pretty good! They have some nice collections. Some installations that make me think "WTF," but overall, very nice. ;)

It's a nice museum! I haven't been there in 13 years or so, and they've added some Asian and African art that is pretty cool.

Whee, if you ever have reason to visit Indianapolis, I'll take you there. It's a nice art museum and they've put in some new stuff since I was there last.
