Thanks to everyone a few weeks ago who made some tea and brewing recommendations -- I've been having too much fun trying stuff you recommended. :)
I mentioned already that I got some lapsang souchong from nuts.com (still recommend that site for all kinds of stuff), and that a gal at work and I have been splitting orders from Adagio.com. Their sampler packs are really handy -- they sell four teas that are usually very expensive in small quantities so you can see if you like them before you shell out the cash.
I still don't have an infuser but I did buy the little T-sacs, which are amazingly handy and are the envy of everyone I work with.
So I have my coffee in the morning but then I have tea in the afternoons and some at night if it's not too late. So far I really love their Fujian Baroque -- so smoooth, and it makes a lightly fruity iced tea -- and their Yunnan Gold, which is one of the most easily brewed and drinkable things I've ever had. It's really, really good black tea. For afternoon I'm addicted to the Earl Grey Bravo, which is the most Earl-Grey-iest Earl Grey I've ever had. I can never go back to tea bags after having that stuff. I don't usually go for flavored teas but have always had a thing for perfumey foods (Turkish delight, anyone? NOM.) and theirs is so very bergamot. It's like perfume heaven with some sugar and milk.
The Black Dragon Pearls are very good, too. They have some of the most intense black tea flavor I've ever had. Oh, and the lapsang souchong is AWESOME for Friday nights. It's like a campfire in my mouth (and makes the house smell like burning leaves in fall, a good smell). I will say I prefer nuts.com's lapsang to the one from Adagio, which is a little weaker.
I tried a summer darjeeling, but it's so tricky to make. It tastes okay but don't overbrew it, ick, and I often do because I put something to steep and then go off and write fanfiction or play Plants vs. Zombies or something. I also am not really fond so far of keemun. It tastes sort of ... mushroomy? Adagio's Assam Melody is okay but tastes just like PG Tips, so I'm not sure I would spend the extra bucks to get looseleaf.
If anyone has tips on brewing chai tea, I'd love to hear them. I haven't had much luck yet.
And that's pretty much it, whee! Speaking of fanfiction, I still have a yuletide_smut fic I've never posted on my journal. Ooops.
Happy Sunday, everyone. Going to the home and patio show tomorrow and maybe I'll buy a couple of new back doors for my house, since the ones I have are sort of falling apart.

Date: 2013-03-10 05:50 am (UTC)As for chai...I don't make it often because it's a lot of business just for a cup of tea (and I get lazy). This recipe at food.com is pretty close to what I've used to success: http://www.food.com/recipe/indian-masala-chai-190932 Not sure why it says to use decaf. I've never done that before. You can vary the spices to your liking.
If you prefer something quick, I've sometimes just made a regular cup of black milk tea and sugar and crushed green cardamom pods.
