'Allo! I have a few detail-ish questions about the Potterverse for those in the know... I've read all the books multiple times of course but wouldn't know where to look for any particular information. Any help here would be hot.

1) Can people apparate in Hogsmeade? I know they can't apparate in or out of Hogwarts's property, but is there some line of demarcation between Hogsmeade and Hogwarts where wizards and witches can do their thing?

2) Who is the proprietor of the Hog's Head? That is the name of the "seedy" bar in Hogsmeade, right?

3) If one is under the Imperius curse, others wouldn't necessarily know unless they'd done it, would they? They have to catch them doing something bad, is that correct?

Thanks in advance! :) And yes, I'm trying to write a story in an unfamiliar universe...

Oh yeah! I'm enabling a creative person who is making time for something I will enjoy!
1) Yep. For instance, Mundungus appartates in HBP in Hogsmeade.
2) Popular lore suggests its Dumbledore's brother, Aberforth (sp?). Look him up in the HP Lexicon. He may be the person with whom Dung is sharing illegal goods in HBP. He's also accused of practicing inappropriate charms on a goat, I believe.
3) I don't think others know someone is under an Imperious until the victim begins acting oddly. That, indeed, is one of the clues offered in the handout given to Wizard families described at the beginning of HBP. I don't know if there's a spell to detect it.

I think the proprietor of the seedy bar is described in OoTP (in the scene where the kids have the organizational meeting for the DA). Isn't he described as gruff & seedy? I have a mental image of a big burly guy wiping down the bar, but maybe I invented that.

Hey, thanks, ladies! I didn't need the information specifically, just wanted to make sure I didn't immediately screw up canon by trying to write something that just wasn't gonna happen. :)

It started because I promised [livejournal.com profile] sharpeslass that I'd try to write Snape. Except I've realized that this story will have no smut whatsoever. I think she's disappointed.

And now I need an HP icon...

My sense is that as soon as you leave the gates of Hogwarts you can apparate. Isn't that what happened at the end of HBP to Snape and Draco?

I think in one of JK's recent interviews she sorta confirms that Dumbledore's brother Aberforth is the proprietor of the Hog's Head. (Which probably made scores of fans giddy that their close reading of the text was correct.)

The HP Lexicon, at www.hp-lexicon.org/, is quite wonderful. It's probably not updated for HBP yet and all of JK's recent interviews, but pretty extensive.

Keep us posted on how it's going!

You know, you're all right about HBP and Hogsmeade. Duh. I just don't seem to retain the details. :)

Thanks for the help!!

Snape?

Snape goes to Hogshead on moon-free nights and picks up muggle women of the night. He makes them call him "my prince" and beat him... and before he leaves he kills them.

Snape isn't really Richman as much as a Richmanesque Christopher Walken.

IMHO
