Eeek! Car payments for the first time since 1998! But my last car, the one I bought new in 1993, was starting to need a lot of electrical help. Apparently living in the desert fries pretty much anything electrical in a car. But my old car was a good baby, she ran perfectly for a very long time, and I cried a little as I said goodbye. I'm sure the salesman thought I was weird, but hey, 13 years is a long time to spend with a car. :)

My new car is, as my old one was, a Nissan Sentra (2006). She's blue, and she's got all the bells and whistles: a 6-CD stereo, alloy wheels, tinted windows, a spoiler, pretty much everything a Nissan Sentra DOESN'T need. I joked with the salesman that I could put rocket fuel in a Sentra and it still wouldn't need a spoiler.

OH GOD CAR PAYMENTS.

[livejournal.com profile] sharpeslass and I shall christen her tonight with a bottle of Veuve Cliquot. Any excuse to buy Veuve Cliquot is a good excuse. Her name will be Sophie. It's the name of Jack Aubrey's first ship, the name of Jack Aubrey's wife, the name of the girl character from Howl's Moving Castle, and the name of [livejournal.com profile] sharpeslass's niece. :)

Am I a freak? Does anyone else name their cars? I've had a Lucy, Betsy (inherited), a Daphne, an Annabelle, and now a Sophie. Very Regency, ain't they all?

Congratulations! I always name my cars. My first was a 1968 Volkswagen Bug called the Green Bomb. Then a series of Civics named Barry. This started after a friend and I bought the same car and named them after the Rick Moranis and Eugene Levy characters in "Club Paradise." In Switzerland we had the Super Skoda. In short, you're not weird. Or no weirder than me (not sure how much comfort that is!).
