WorldCon Report
Sep. 7th, 2006 12:28 pmHere's a brief, belated Worldcon in Anaheim report, with a few pics. It's been nearly two weeks and much of it has faded from my mind (which is why it's brief) but I do remember that we had a great time. I've tried to shrink the pics, but I'm no graphic designer so beware, they may be large-ish. :)
It was my first Worldcon since 2001 in Philadelphia, because I've been too damn poor to fly anywhere that work didn't pay for! Thankfully Anaheim is a five-hour drive from Las Vegas. Desert driving at 90mph, which is always a good time. I didn't attend much programming, except for a couple of Star Trek panels (with stars-- not a usual occurrence at the booky WorldCon) and the Regency Dancing. But the Regency Dancing was AWESOME! A professional in full Regency regalia actually lined everyone up (~70 people, many of them male, even) taught four or five dances. They were intricate but a lot of fun, and historically interesting for all the deportment we learned. Apparently the upper classes had plenty of time for creating intricate dances and etiquette for dancing. Here are some pics of us in the dresses
sharpeslass's mom made:
Me in Regency dress, trying not to look hung-over:

sharpeslass trying to appear calm but looking sorta grumpy:

Three of us, including a gal we met from the Horatians.org list:

There were lots of cool displays, as usual, including these ADORABLE Lord of the Rings "Fandango-style" puppets:

There was also lots of partying, which probably explains the lack of programming-attendance (though we did make the masquerade; you can probably find pics and videos on YouTube, my new crack, or at the laconiv.org website).
Going out to party, dressed as Dread Pirate Gretchen X and her wench, Maisery (this is my expensive damned corset):

sharpeslass Partying with Gnomes at the Gnomeward Bound party:

Party Girls!

And us with friends, whom I hadn't seen in four years or more:

And that's pretty much it! The rest of the pics will stay secret. ;)
