So this is weird-- [livejournal.com profile] sharpeslass and I were driving to work and we were thinking about [livejournal.com profile] lexsara and wishing we'd seen the OOTP movie with her and discussing her Potter-ships and wondering how many times we could call her on Saturday to discuss the book. And she was right there with us, based on her last post. Love you, darlin'!

(PS, thought the movie OOTP was really, really good. We'll probably see it a third time this week.)

Cut for HP book rambling, couple of my hopes for DH, not eloquent.

Severus Snape: I know there will be questions after Deathly Hallows. But I really, really want some sort of resolution for Professor Snape. It doesn't have to be a happy resolution, but I just want to know the hows, whens, wheres and whys.

Like [livejournal.com profile] lexsara, I like many characters but at heart I'm a Snape-woman! I thought he was the coolest character from the first book. I can't possibly 'ship him, just 'cause, really, who would want to date someone that angry and doomed on a long-term basis? I just love to read about him. I just re-read OOTP (waited till after the movie) and HBP this weekend. JKR has taken a character who could have been as one-dimensional as the male Dursleys and painted him so grey and layered that I can't resist him. Dumbledore's pleading could have meant anything! Severus, please rescue me, or Severus, please kill me. Squee!

Shipping: Eh. I find it difficult to 'ship Potter-verse. It was certainly fun to read about everyone's romantic entanglements once they reached puberty, but I feel weird 'shipping the under-18 set, and as for the adults, I can't explain why, but I just don't actively hook any of them up in my mind, either. If pressed, I'd say that I'd be somewhat interested to see something in DH OTHER than Hermione/Ron and Harry/Ginny, 'cause they're just boring to me. I see the logic of Harry/Ginny. Ginny is cool, and it would be nice for the Weasleys to have Harry in the family, but it's so clear that she was always meant for Harry. Too predictable. Same with Hermione/Ron. Hermione needs more, if you ask me. Ron is not my favorite character, because I just feel too sorry for him. He's like Hagrid, for me (or the Office)-- the stuff he does just makes me want to groan in embarassment.

I suppose dunno, if asked I might admit to a bit if Harry/Hermione prejudice-- just a little mind you, and I can't necessarily defend it-- and possibly Ron/Luna. Luna is cool. Or I'll stretch, and say Lupin/Sibyll. I've written the fanfic! Bwah hah hah!

I picked up the "Trust Snape" sticker from Borders when I pre-ordered. Only five more days!! We're having shepherd's pie, butterbeer (apparently, cream soda and butterscotch schnapps) and pumpkin pasties. And cigarettes, and the couch, and Deathly Hallows.

PS: Any other wantons want to exchange cell phone numbers, since we can't make the read-in, so we may bother y'all? Bwah hah!

Great minds I tell you, great minds. As I noted in replying to your post in my LJ ... I sent [livejournal.com profile] sharpslass my thoughts on OotP, which I very much enjoyed (more so as I took in repeat viewings) despite a few nitpicks here and there. I wish I could have seen it with you two though, keeping with tradition!

You know you'd better be calling me, because I'll be calling you throughout the weekend reading!

Heh, even "Talk of the Nation" on NPR is going Potter this week. Fun. NPR listeners are actually quite fun to hear them talk about continuity and other errors in the book. Good to know there are a lot of 'older fans' out there along with us who are just as obsessed with details!

Yeah. I think we're going to have to figure out a system to hook up via cellphone and talk.

Maybe we should exchange cell phone numbers offlist and then post to LJ when we're ready to talk. Then the next person who sees it can pick so note in the comments and call that person?

I think having a 'call in' would be great fun!

I think that there's a good idea in that...because I think we're going to all need to talk to each other. What do you think about posting something to LJ or the list or something and seeing if we can come up with a system.

I wish I had some facility that I could use where we could all conference each other and do a massive discussion when everyone's done reading.

All the technology I work with..and nothing to aid in this situation.

I'm thinking of liveblogging the book, posting after every few chapters read. (Behind cuts, of course) This would have the advantage of slowing me down; I read faster than my niece Katie does, and it would be nice if I wasn't too far ahead of her!

I'm not a Snape woman. I agree that he's a fascinating character, but he's so plain nasty. And I don't see Harry/Hermione at all, although I admit that I'm not sure why Hermione's attracted to Ron. I know she *is*, I just don't really know *why*.

Wheeee! Only a few days!

Well, a bunch of us will be up in VT. Make sure you have Lexsara's cell phone, OK? And that she has yours!

LOL! You didn't pre-order from evil corporate giant Borders? They had two stickers: "Trust Snape" and "Snape is a very bad man." I guess they were keeping a running tally on stickers chosen. Trust Snape was ahead but not by a giant margin.

We probably need a similar system to slow us down. But I'm pretty sure we'll be done by Saturday evening (if the experience of the last two books is any indication).

Hermione/Ron-- I suppose Ron's not a bad guy but like you, I think, "Why?"

Oh yeah, we've got her! And I'm sure you all will be ahead of us because of the time difference-- we'll read a few chapters Friday night, and then finish Saturday evening. So we're not spoiling each other.

Yah, we might need extra support when this is over (I'm lucky to have support at home because [livejournal.com profile] sharpeslass is my roommate). Are you going to VT?

"Trust Snape" OMW! Love it.

When ya'll decide on how to post numbers, I'd love to be in on the phone chat.
