Not much but an update, anyway!

Hello! Random update is random! :)
Happy Mother's Day to all the moms on my flist (or cat mommies or dog mommies or, hell, plushie Saiyuki doll mommies)! I chatted with my mom this morning and heard what a good daughter I was, (1) for not smoking for almost two weeks, yay and (2) for sending her a COACH purse for Mother's Day. Do I not rock? I figured that since I'd purchased myself a Coach bag, my mommy should have one, too. No more news on her tumor test results, yet-- hopefully this week? Hopefully it's good news? ::wibble::
Sushi: Best roomie ever
sharpeslass took me out for yummy sushi last night. We desperately wanted to try ootoro, the giant/fancy tuna featured prominently as a lure for Haruhi in Ouran High School Host Club, but the restaurant was OUT! Nooooo! We made mojitos to console ourselves.
Star Trek: We saw it today. I didn't hate it-- in fact, it was a pretty decent movie-- but I can wait for DVD to see it again.
Birthday: Tomorrow is the dreaded day. HOLY FREAKIN' CRAP. I can hardly mention what dreaded milestone I'm reaching tomorrow. I shall probably want to lay on the couch and feel sorry for myself, as I usually do on my birthdays. EXCEPT WORSE because OMG. I took TWO days off work.
sharpeslass has planned a trip to Ulta at some point for girly stuff. We have a 20% off coupon, so I suppose we should take advantage of it. If you do not have Ulta in your area-- ULTA IS GIRLY MECCA. It's like a supermarket of beauty products. We are usually ensnared by the O.P.I. nail-polish display and the Urban Decay makeup aisle. I'll need all the beauty products I can get. ::whimper::
Console me in my misery. I'll has Gojyo/Sanzo or some Tamaki/Haruhi, please (squee for canon het fluffy luv!). Or... send me a virtual pat on the back and a softly-spoken there, there.
Midnight ETA: Holy Crap, I just realized that I was listening to Bauhaus. BAUHAUS. Over and over. Hahahaha! Up music! ::whimpers, then faints::
(THANK YOU to
riverlad and
sakuraharu for the lovely lj-profile gifts!)

Date: 2009-05-11 03:52 am (UTC)I was a little freaked out on my 40th. It's like having a root canal done. Scary at first but once it's over with it is not a big deal.
You can do what I told my husband on my 40th. "I am going to count backwards. I am not 40 I am 39 and going back each year." so the next year I would be 38.

Date: 2009-05-11 09:19 am (UTC)Our mothers' day was a while ago... I tried to buy my mother a bunch of her favourite flowers only for her to go buy a bunch herself before I had the chance! Grr. Need to sneak-buy some when I'm next home...
Hmm, Tamaki/Haruhi fluff... I'll go looking! Funnily enough I haven't read any yet, even tho I finished the anime on Saturday. I was thinking of moving over to the manga, seeing as how that's ongoing :D

Date: 2009-05-11 04:30 pm (UTC)There's really not much well-written fanfic out there for OHSHC. And over a PG-rating? Nope. Sheesh.
The manga really grew on me after the second volume or so-- it seems frenetic at first but there are some great stories. You can find it all online, too!
Thank you!

Date: 2009-05-11 07:13 pm (UTC)I was thinking, with the manga I'd rather just continue where the anime left off (from amazon summaries I'm thinking vol 4/5?), but is it that simple? Or should I read the manga from the start?
*eyes mangafox with interest*

I saw them all at www.onemanga.com They have up to the very latest chapters scanlated there!

Date: 2009-05-11 10:44 am (UTC)No misery on your birthday! I think spending it with girly visit to Ulta is a great idea...and perhaps you ought to revisit sushi place to see if they've got that ootoro. *g* Happy Birthday!!

Happy birthday!

HAPPY BIRTHDAY LASS!

Date: 2009-05-11 04:09 pm (UTC)Oh, I adore Bauhaus's music! I was just laughing at myself 'cause I realized it was on constant replay and it's not really "up" music. Come on, Silent Hedges? (Which would actually make a really good angsty 53 song.)
I figure it's probably nostalgia. ;) Though I was always a little more fond of Tones on Tail and L&R. Daniel Ash and his guitar FTW!! No other guitar in the rock universe sounds like that.
Thank you!! ::hugs::

Date: 2009-05-11 01:04 pm (UTC)Gojyo/Sanzo will be your way this evening!!!
Ulta sounds like a cool place, I wish we had them here!
As for Bauhaus, at least you were not listening to Sisters of Mercy. Because while Sisters is great, it is not safe for your sanity if you are feeling a smidgin depressed ;)
Good for you on the not smoking!!! *hugs you loads* Chibi-Gojyo sends you a plushie cuddle too ;)

Date: 2009-05-12 01:35 am (UTC)Oooh, Ulta was dangerous. I bought stuff I needed, though. Except for that green nailpolish...

Oh, are you a smoker? My secret is "The Patch." Seriously, I've not smoked in two weeks but I've not been grumpy at all-- well, except a little down over turning forty. I only hope once I've gone off the patch that I can keep it up. I sort of wasn't ready to quit so I need the mental habit block to go away!
Thank you so much!! ::hugs::

Marlboro and I have an on-off relationship, yes... I briefly broke it off with M to try a fling with N (Nicoderm) but we didn't click... >_>
I wish you continued success with your resolution, though! Well done, you! ♥

I was waiting for you to weigh in about this one ebcause everyone's been telling me how awesome it is but I don't know many Trekkies/Trekkers, well, aside from you! I'm just plain waiting for the DVD; I don't have a burning desire to see it. Meh.
Ahahaha, Bauhaus! ::Checks twice:: Yup, you're as old as my brother! xD And no pity on your birthday; have happy, cheery fun time, if you can! Hugs!

Date: 2009-05-11 07:24 pm (UTC)Oh, I really don't have much of a review... I enjoyed it, but it only made me wish they'd done better ST movies of the "original timeline universe." I.e., wishing that "Insurrection" had not been made and that "Nemesis" had been a little better.
The effects were excellent. It had a very, very nice opening scene, some interesting twists on characters, but by the time it was over I was ready for it to be over. So it was better than we'd feared, but I'm not in the "OMG I'm squeeing over Star Trek again" camp. I'd rather re-watch Deep Space Nine or even "Star Trek: First Contact" again!
(Don't know if that's helpful!)
Yup... Bauhaus. Love that stuff. Hee!

Date: 2009-05-11 07:28 pm (UTC)Anyway, I'm sure that I speak for all the people here when I say that all the people who care about you would want you to be happy. Being miserable doesn't change the number of years you've been here, nor does it change the number you have left. All we can do is make the most of the time we have.
Life is a gift, that's why they call it the present. Every year that you have, whether it's near the beginning of your life, in the middle, or toward the end, is still a moment to be celebrated. So, be happy. ♥

Date: 2009-05-12 02:54 am (UTC)You know, it's funny, because I said that on the phone to someone today... that instead of bitching about forty, I should be glad that I've had that many years of awesome things. :)
::hugs:: thank you!

Date: 2009-05-12 03:05 am (UTC)And yes, no bitching! We won't even mention numbers. ;) I'm glad that you've had many years of awesome things, and I hope that there are many more to come.
*hugs* You are perfectly welcome, and don't let anyone tell you otherwise!
