A Reminder!

So, please back up your files, everyone. Sigh. My hard drive is dead. For the second time in just about a year, this time on a nearly brand-new computer! What am I doing to the poor things? Ack!

Anyway, the hard-drive was covered under Dell warranty and they're replacing it (phew), but now all my travel plans, purchases, music, bookmarks, unfinished fics, pictures, you name it, are gone.

Sigh. Next time... I WILL back up! I swear!

Awwww honey.. I am so sorry. My Dell laptop - the HD died within the first month. I consider that good as there wasn't much on it yet. So glad most of my stuff is on my external HD. I need to back up my stuff soon tho.. thanks for the hard warning*

What a horrible thing to have happen! I've been backing stuff up on a flash drive but more because I've had to clear out my default drive every day to resolve problems with too little memory being left. Today I finally realized that moving my music to a different drive would fix it.

We're down a computer because of a failing infected hard drive but at least it was caught before it failed. The problem is that we haven't been able to get the new hard drive to work because the recovery disk with all the machine software onit doesn't work. PITA.

Hah, a friend is trying to get stuff off my OLD hard-drive (the one from a year ago, the reason I bought hte new computer, which just died). He put it in the freezer... and it HELPED! So put your Mac in the freezer? :)

Yes it is.

It stores word, excel, powerpoint and pdfs that I know of, probably more formats as well.

Oh no, I'm so sorry to hear about all your stuff. :( Usually for fics I keep a WIP journal here on LJ, and because I used to be paranoid, I would keep on elsewhere too (journalfen for a time). It might be an idea to post all WIPs under private in a journal for the time being.

My sympathies. Is this a desktop or a laptop? Laptops can be fragile.

We've rigged up our house so that our computers automatically backup, wirelessly -- every hour! It's a Mac set-up and pretty expensive, but worth it because we don't have to do anything to backup. I wonder if there is something similar for PCs?

Your setup sounds like the one we have at work. I need to figure out something, even it it's just being sure to create backup discs now and then.
