I thought this was a fun one, and distracting... :)

I have lots of old stuff. But for carrying around?

In my purse, no matter which of my purses my purse happens to be, I always carry a little ceramic monkey my friend Shane gave me (for about 16 years), and a 1999 Sacajawea dollar my dad gave me in 1999... he said, "keep this for luck" and I put it in my change purse right away and it's still there.

And is the title of this meme the title of a Depeche Mode song, or what?

that's cool! I have a piece of paper with a figure 8 on it for infinity in my wallet, cause it's good luck, and a piece of amber in my change purse (what you guys call a wallet I think?), cause that means you are never out of money ;) So far so good... LOL

I will carry an infinity in my wallet, also, for I need good luck! :)

Oh, and I've never heard the amber thing, either, though I do like amber.

I have a box of letters from the people I hung around with in high school and college that I will probably always keep- guess it dates me, that I am so old that people had to write letters to keep in touch: no such thing as email, and long distance phone calls were expensive. Some of those people are not around anymore, which makes the letters even more valuable to me now. Plus they are almost a time capsule of a sort of watershed time in my life, so I am glad I have them.

As far as carrying something around, the closest I have to that is the silver pendant I had made that I never take off. It is the kanji for muichimotsu, which is a something I am coming to realize the value of more and more in all walks of life. The pendant is always there as a gentle reminder: when I have those times when I am holding on to something, whether it's something material, an emotion, or a friend that has just died, to just take a deep breath, and let it all go. *grin* Guess if I really ever get the hang of things, I won't need the pendant anymore (but I'm not holding my breath on that one - I seem to be a slow learner. ^___~)

Heh, I do still have some of the notes we used to pass each other in high school... from some of the girls I still run around with, 25 years later. :)

Oh, I should think that muichimotsu would be very, very difficult to practice... but if it helps, then good on ya! ::hugs::

I have some old things in my jewelry box -- a coin with my parents' names on it that my dad got my mother when they were dating. A jeweled peace sign tie tack from the Vietnam War era, some of my grandparents' jewelry and my dad's birthstone ring. I have my dad's yearbook from his navy enlistment and his stamp-collecting book from when he was a kid, too, I keep those in my nightstand drawer. I also have an International Ladies' Garment-Worker's Union doll that was my paternal grandfather's that resides on my armoire.

In my wallet I have a K/U phone charm that [livejournal.com profile] xcerpted made for me and a relief-stamped metal peace sign that my friend Paul gave me.

I love wallet things, especially! And having things that have been passed down in the family are neat... I have some of those, and looking at them makes me think of the person who owned them, even if I never met that person (i.e., like my grandfathers or any of my great-grandparents).
