Brief Update of Briefness

Any new people who've joined me recently, hello! And I'm really bad at seeing sometimes when I have new people on my flist, so if you've added me and I haven't done so in return, it's not that I don't want you. I just don't have notifications on and I'm a dork. ;)

Holy crud, all the cute new Hetalia canon we've been getting lately is making me so happy. Now if I could just remember where I left off on watching Hetalia World Series...

Also, the Reds game is not on TV for the second night in a row. My Reds channel is showing the World Poker Tour - from months ago - for the second night in a row. Why do they do this to me? I need to watch my boyfriends hit and throw baseballs. ::pouts::

I know, I never understand that sports blackout thing... Mr. hg pays a shitload of money so he can get all his baseball games of his team (Oakland A's) and then they get blacked out - it's not like we live in an area where people would be buying tickets instead of watching it on TV!?! Professional sports is a mystery to me.

(And I've never understood why anyone would want to watch someone play poker on television anyway - that falls somewhere way below watching paint dry, in my book.)

I know! I have the MLB app for my iPhone, but they black everything out. Erm? Who are they selling the actual games to?

And as for the poker - SHIT, WOMAN, I KNOW, RIGHT? Seriously ... it's guys sitting there wearing sunglasses and surly expressions, playing cards. They try to make it exciting with chick narrators in short skirts making happy noises.

I can beat that. We had a friend we used to ride with to powwows in his RV (dubbed "The Tin Teepee." *snort*) He would listen to NASCAR races on the freaking RADIO!!! Hour after hour of inane sportscaster chatter and racecar roaring sound effects. It was the most insane sports thing I have ever seen. I mean, the main reason people watch races is to see the wrecks, right? You can't even do that on the goddamn radio! WTF?!?! I really didn't get that one, at all.

Nothing, and I say, NOTHING, is worse that cricket commentary. That is all I have to say. Fat old British men discussing hats in the audience while waiting for some other guy to hit a wicket. Or a ball. Or something.

*lol* All that makes me think of is the assorted Monty Python routines with the sports commentary, like the Silly Olympics, or the Upper Class Twit of the Year (one of my favorites.) I'm not sure I could listen to any Brit sports commentary and keep a straight face - Python has ruined it for me. ^___^

I guess it's better to want to see your team and they're not be on than to not want to see your team and they're on. I turned off the Mariners after the Blue Jays scored six runs off of them in the top of the first! It's been one of those seasons.

Hee, I'm not obsessed or anything. I actually called Comcast once last year when the Reds/Cardinals game was scheduled to be on and wasn't... I spent an hour on the phone with them while the customer service lady called around to find out why my game wasn't on (she was also indignant). Turns out it was a technical error of some sort.

Oh, and I feel your pain... the Reds are still a few games under .500... and they won the division last year and were supposed to kick ass this year! Sigh.

Are you going to read the books first? Probably worth-while... There are ten episodes (so far - it is ongoing. I just hope the author finishes the series before they run out of material. Last book took SIX YEARS to come out). I think they are an hour long each.

The Blue Jays have actually someone good on the team this year, so we are kicking all the asses and we shall take over the world this season. It'll be like, 1992/1993 with double back-to-back World Series wins. It's all because we have the Sky Dome with the retractable roof, yanno. *snorts* Yeah, okay... I'm not gonna place a bet anytime soon, put it that way.

WTF with the poker? The only time poker is amusing is when we used to play Saiyuki Poker at the bar...THREE SANZO's!! Sorry, I've got a screw loose this evening... :P

I do know about people with a baffling interest in watching very boring sports. I used to have a FiL who was addicted to watching golf on television. That was pretty dismal. To his credit, he liked to play golf and was quite good at it, so he wasn't just a sofa-athlete.

Oh man, golf. It's definitely in the running for top ten most boring sports to watch on TV. Though I guess it has its devotees, as you say-- and there are people who think watching baseball on TV is snore-inducing, but I get all tense and shouty and jump up and down a lot when I watch it.

They used to show snooker, which is like pool, on the television in the UK back in the 80s... when there were only three channels. It was snooker on one channel and massage (not the sexy kind) on another. wuff. The only people who talk about how great Brit t.v. is are the ones who never lived there. We get all the good stuff imported.
