Cicadas

Holy Frijoles! The cicadas are amazingly loud tonight! They have been really loud for the last few days. I wonder if it's one of those 8-year or 12-year cicada thingums? Anyway, when you add in the grasshoppers and crickets, my neighborhood is louder right now than it ever is during the day. :)

Does anyone know how to record their sounds on an iPhone, by the way, and upload it?

They seem to be loud everywhere this year. Don't they go in cycles or something? Maybe this is one of their big years... We can't have our windows open at night because not only is it still too darn warm, but the smoke from the wildfires is still really nasty, especially at night.

Yeah, I keep hearing about eight-year cycles for some or 12-year cycles for others or something. I'd love to record it... I've never heard them this loud!

The Great Dismal Swamp. The winds keep blowing it up our direction - it was so bad last weekend, they actually closed some of the outdoor tourist attractions in Williamsburg to discourage people from hanging around outside and breathing it, it was burning people's noses and throats. It stinks, too - apparently it's the peat in the swamp that smells bad when it burns. This happens a lot in years like this where we've had a lot of 95 to 100 and up degree heat and not enough rain - it just dries out and gets very combustible down there. A few lightening strikes or a careless cigarette toss, and *POOF*.

In Osaka they were really loud, (in my 1st 4 days) but now theyre not loud anymore!

U can also record sounds by making a video :) thats how i did it :) - sorry for the 2 posts.

I'm right there with you. There is a "world famous" frozen custard place just a block away from where I work and I was forced to run out and get a cup of the stuff for myself and a coworker (one of the few I like, but I like her a lot!)

Oh, god, tell me about it. I ate this very reasonable - even scant - dinner last night, and then I opened this new Key Lime flavor Edy's frozen yogurt. It was SOOOO good, I ate a big bowl after dinner, and another before I went to bed! Nearly half the carton was gone! >.< So much for the diet yesterday... (but it really was good.)

There was a massive cicada on my patio the other night. When I opened the patio door it served as a partition between it and me, so I studied it very closely. HIs expression seemed kind of cute and human, so I decided to live and let live and see how it went. After I'd been reading for a bit, he started doing some sort of kamakazi flying pattern and twice nearly ended up in my hair. The cease fire ended. I felt kind of bad for him afterward though. And his corpse was gone the next night. If birds eat raid marinated bugs, will they get sick?
