What's up, all? I don't ever post anymore, wah! But things have been busy and finally I'll get a couple of months to relax before a trip to the UK in August. :)
First off, I got a new job! I've been there three weeks. It's actually an "old" job, sort of-- I'm working at the IU School of Medicine genetics lab that I left in 2002 when I moved to Las Vegas. Same office, different position. Gotta say, the benefits are awesome at the university. I'm still working a few hours a week at the law firm just to help out, so it's been busy.
Also, we finally had my dad's memorial gathering yesterday. Man, what a lot of work! We had it at my house because I have a (mostly) nice back yard for socializing in and my house is easier to clean than my mom's because it's less cluttered to start with, haha. So there was a week of cleaning and the planning and the inviting and the food. The foooood. Mom and my bro took care of getting together pictures and stuff. But we had a great turnout - about 70 people in my little house! My daddy was a popular guy. :) And I got to see cousins I don't get to see very often at all.
chorus_of_chaos came over and helped me get ready, bless her, and man, I'm so wiped right now.
So that's my excitement. How you all?

Date: 2014-07-03 12:36 am (UTC)I am pleased by the job -- it's not exactly in my field and it's like returning somewhere I left long ago to have a different life, which I did for eight years in Las Vegas. But I needed more money, and now I have great benefits again (wow, fantastic benefits at the university) and good coworkers and the field is fascinating and has moved along a bit since I was there. Medicine is like magic these days, I swear!
There's just nothing out there-- especially in Indiana -- in journalism or even just publications or communications. I applied for several jobs and heard not a peep. One job I applied for did send an e-mail reply, and they forgot to hide the e-mail list so? I discovered there were over a hundred people applying for this director of communications job at a concrete company in Carmel, Indiana. !! Basically all the papers and magazines and media outlets are just closing down and letting people go, so there are a lot of us out there. One job I applied for when I first moved back four years ago just laid off their entire editing department, sheesh.
I figure I'll do writing stuff as a hobby and now I can take classes at a deeply discounted rate because I work for the university, woo!
Phew, sorry for the long-ass reply. I hope you are well the summer is treating you awesomely and that you are growing all sorts of good stuff.
