RenFaire!

I went to my first "Party" Renaissance Faire Saturday, woohoo! A Renaissance Faire in Las Vegas-- go figure. I've actually been to one with my Mom before, and [livejournal.com profile] sharpeslass has been to plenty, but this was the first time I've been wenched out at one of these things.

Here are some pictures! http://members.aol.com/somejedigirl/renfaire.htm

We did run into two Jedi, who had all Anakin and Obi-Wan hair. Not too shabby, if the Obi-Wan was a little short. Well, to me, anyway. And I'd threatened to wear my Jedi costume after my first bodice-fitting at home. Jedi must be much more comfortable than wenches, I think.

There was drinking and lucky us, we ran into some friends who took us with them to the after-parties.

The dress was [livejournal.com profile] sharpeslass's, and it fit fine but the first bodice she lent me-- OUCH! It was made for a 5'4" woman, not an Amazon like me. [livejournal.com profile] sharpeslass tried to tell me that "some people can take the pain better than others," but really, I was in massive non-breathing, panic attack mode! We loosened it up so I could DRIVE for heaven's sake, and when we got there, our first stop was at a clothing booth. The owners, this gal and her husband, took one look at me and said they could fit me a whole hell of a lot better than that thing. The black one I'm wearing in the pictures is the NEW and IMPROVED bodice. Now I have my very own!

Still, though, I didn't eat a bite for 14 hours. Beer must have kept me going. I guess it was all those carbohydrates.

Now I want to go to another one! Really, since I haven't been able to afford to attend WorldCon or Dragon Con or JadeCon, I've missed the fannish experience.

You should try and see if there's one over in California you could attend. The Californians really know how to throw Ren Faires. And proper ones, too!

You'll still have a few, stray genre costumes, but mostly it's a wonderful experience. Great crafts to see. Wonderful costumes. You'll love it!

Yeah-- a few of the guild people we hung out with after-hours said that they did the California circut. I think a lot of them are over now, darnit. It really was a blast, and I wish I'd been more sober so as to see more of the crafts (though I did buy an emerald ring from this guy who does GORGEOUS jewelry)!

Surprisingly there were lots of belly-dancers. And lots of them were mighty thin for belly-dancers, but maybe that's just Las Vegas. I was wondering whether the belly-dancing was a ren-faire "norm." :)

You had Jedi at your Ren Faire! No fair! LOL! The best we get at the Hogge Towne Medieval Faire is some overweight guy who thinks it's a good idea to come dressed as a barbarian in the cold of February. Think Xena except male and with leather studded codpiece! =-O Great pics!

Admire your choice in music as well; I've been listening to The Wedding Album over and over lately. Dunno, just had a taste for it I guess! John Taylor, mmmmm....

Peace, Ghani

LOL, we say that The Wedding Album was almost the first time that Duran Duran lyrics made sense in any way. Now don't get me wrong; I was a Durannie of the first obsessive order in my way (I loved John) but man, the Union of the Snake? WTF? ;)

Yup, I was suprised to see Jedi myself. So where is it that they have a renfaire in February?? Florida?

Bwahahahahahahaha, "Is he saying 'flaky bandit?!'" Ooh, or, my favorite cos it's as hard to understand as it is bizarre and incomprehensible: "Sold the Renoir and the tv set; don't wanna be around when this gets out!" LMAO! And, you know, making sense didn't stop them from being fun or funny in any way; look at UMF! OMG, that song's a hoot!

And, yes, I own solo J. Taylor stuff [blush]...

Yup, Florida, in the only month that it's guaranteed to be in the 50s during the height of the day: February. It's also usually drizzly and gray which one of the volunteers once told me makes it more authentic: wet, cold and overcast. Yup!

Hoggetowne was actually Gainesville's name when my father grew up near here in Melrose! LOL!

Peace, Ghani

This only makes me gnash my teeth and weep at the thought that I missed this. Sigh. No, I spent the day researching and studying. Not having any fun. Attending meetings too.

I love the fact there were Jedi at the RenFair, and Joe! Haven't seen him in a while either. Sigh. I'm really getting homesick seeing those pics, but I'm so glad you had fun!!

You guys are so lucky. I really miss you. I wonder why I decided to do this rather than come back home to Vegas.

Oh, it looks like you had a blast! Haven't gone to our "local" (one hour away) event in many years, but they are fun. Maybe next year.

Trying to seduce Jedi? You evil wench! But we already knew you were.

Heh heh. If only the Obi-Wan had been a little taller. And I was wearing flats. ;)

Kristen, I know that this doesn't really pertain to your journal entry, but I finally saw Ranma 1/2 and I'm obsessed with it!

Woops, wasn't logged in, ^^

Ranma Rule girl, glad you finally realize it. ;) Which ones have you seen? The movies and the OAVs are the best. Ryoga/P-chan is my favorite character, believe it or not, not Shampoo. I need a P-chan icon but I couldn't find one I liked!

Hugs and kisses

Unfortunately I've only seen a few episodes when Akane has to go against Black Rose. I want to see if I can get some movies and what not, but unfortunatly I'm broke (*cries*). Ryoga's actually fairly nifty, lol, even when he's a pig. I'm quite partial to him and Akane. If I find a decent P-chan icon, I'll link ya!
