So, since I wailed about the snow, I took pictures when I got home. Yeah, yeah, all you northerners/easterners say, pictures of snow are just not that exciting. Still, I thought pictures of our poor suffering palm trees and oleander might be appropriate. Apparently it was the biggest snowfall in Las Vegas since 1979.

It was supposed to be in the 30s all week and I was afraid everything would die, but wonder of wonders! It was nice and sunny today and probably near 50, so I hope that at home it's all melted (bwah hah hah, take that, winter!).

Here's a very unhappy oleander bush that is normally a couple of feet taller than I am:

An even unhappier palm tree in our front yard-- they looked like this all over the city, with just one part in the middle pointing up, the rest all bowed out (I took this pic for my mom, to show her the live wreath she'd sent us that I just received):

Our summery furniture in the backyard: woe!

It's a glass table and I brushed it off with a broom last night and [livejournal.com profile] sharpeslass thought I was insane, but then they showed pics of collapsed carports and whatnot. I really didn't want to clean 10 square feet of broken glass off the patio.

Yeah, not that exciting to anyone but us here in the sunny southwest, I know. :)

ETA: and OT-- Oh No! I have just learned that Majel Barret Roddenberry died today. :( I loved her in all her incarnations in Star Trek.

I was not aware that it snowed in Vegas...ever. It's a little surreal to think about, actually. :)

We had hail the other day but it only lasted long enough for us to point and say "oh, my god, it's hailing!" and then it was done.

It doesn't snow here, usually! In the foothills and higher elevations there might be a few flakes that never stick, but down in the valley-- on the Strip? I've never seen it snow there and I've lived here 8 years! :) It was super-freaky.

Ick, hail. Of course, I think SF is way too cold in the middle of summer. But it stays that same temperature all year, right?
