Comment on this post saying you want a letter - I'll give you one, then post to your journal your five favorite songs that begin with that letter - along with downloads if you like. Or music videos...whatever works. You can also comment without being hit with a letter, never fear!

Given to me by [livejournal.com profile] rroselavy: the letter G!

Wow, at first it was hard finding G songs from my favorite bands, but after flipping through my CDs I rounded up a few! I'm sure there are more and I'll remember them tomorrow or next week or something.

Green Man (XTC). It's no secret that I'm a fanatic for XTC (the band), so I had to include an XTC song and it was just a tossup between about four of them. I chose this one 'cause I figured I'd listen to it before the others, except maybe Generals and Majors. It's so... world-music/ren-faire sounding, as opposed to most of their stuff, which I'd describe as ex-punk quirky pastoral British pop with clever lyrics (which [livejournal.com profile] sharpeslass would describe as "tuneless").

Guilty Beauty Love is Tamaki's song from an Ouran High School Host Club drama CD somewhere. I adore this tune, and it's sooo very Tamaki. I have versions by voice actors from both Japanese and English, but be warned that they were ripped from Youtube and are not bad but are not "car-quality" audio: Guilty Beauty Love (Japanese) (Mamoru Minoru sp?) and Guilty Beauty Love (English). (A note: I thought it was awesome that Vic Mignogna, the English-language voice-actor for Tamaki, took the Japanese song and had it translated and then recorded it. What fan service!)

Girlfriend (Matthew Sweet): I had the hugest crush on Matthew Sweet ever in the 90s and still adore several of his albums from beginning to end. This was his first single, and I remember being thrilled that the music video had anime in it. I stood in line to meet Matthew Sweet at a record store once; it was one of the only times I've ever been star-struck when meeting an idol of mine. I'd planned to look extremely cute and tell him how I worked in a comic store and etc. etc. and instead I stood there and gaped until my friend Shannon talked to him for me and had him sign something. ::sigh::

Golden Years (David Bowie): I have a soft spot for vintage glitter-rock and disco. Think Velvet Goldmine-type stuff. This is an awesome Bowie song, one of my faves and IMHO, the only good part of the movie "A Knight's Tale" is when everyone dances to this song wearing medieval garb. Except for maybe the part with Paul Bettany being naked.

Gold Dust Woman (Fleetwood Mac): Fleetwood Mac was one of my first favorite bands when I discovered music in those pre-teen years. They had a lot of good "G" songs, actually, but I settled on this one 'cause it's awesomely good, Stevie Nicks at her best, and Lindsey Buckingham's guitar is always worth listening to, and the Mick Fleetwood drum beat in this one-- SEXAH.

Oh, me too! I have such a thing for 70s California Rock (Eagles, America, Fleetwood Mac) but FM is my very favorite of those. All their stuff is excellent.

::hugs::

Oh, I love Golden Years, that's such an awesome song. Manson did a good cover of it too, but Bowie's is better. ;)

Hit me with a letter. I've done W already, and have H waiting in the wings. =)

Wow, you've got those already? Heh, I shall have to visit your journal to gets me some muzik. ;)

Do you mean Marilyn Manson (I'm guessing from the icon)? I have an odd and grudging respect for him. Hee!

Ooooh, how about... D!

Yeah, W was posted awhile ago, but you should be able to find it under my meme tag. Haven't put up H yet, was going to get a couple more letters and do a bunch at once, will add D to the list =)

Yep yep, Marilyn Manson does some really great covers, IMHO. The icon however is actually of Bone, the drummer from Deathstars. ;)

Ack! I feel pretty stupid at mis-identifying your icon. ;) See how out of touch I am? I used to be all punk-rock back in the day.

Thank you!!

You and I have already talked about our mutual admiration for XTC (I would have listed "Great Fire" here ^_________^). BUT. OMFG! MATTHEW SWEET. I still LOVE Girlfriend! OMG **squeeeeeeeeee**

Ahem. Sadly, I don't play well with .wma files. "Gold Dust Woman" and "Golden Years" are lovely picks as well.

Nice songs!

Ack! I thought they were MP3. Damned work computer! ;) I've re-uploaded MP3s for them, don't know if you need any.

LOL, you love Matthew Sweet, too? Squee! I love his stuff; I think "Ugly Truth" is my favorite of his (the original country-ish sounding one). That CD is ALWAYS in my car. The album with "Come to Love" and "Super Baby" was awesome, too.

And OMG, I almost had "Great Fire." I was wibbling. I ultimately decided that I just don't listen to Great Fire enough because I don't care for the chorus so much, though I DO really like the little violin parts in it-- I sometimes skip Great Fire to get to Deliver Us From the Elements. (The other choices were Generals and Majors & Gold.) Yes, I'm an XTC dork.

::hugs:: Thank you for the letter!

It's the lyrics to "Great Fire" that do me in **is a hopeless romantic** Anything from Black Sea works for me and takes me right back to art school!

And, yes, I love "The Ugly Truth" as well! Though I think my favorite track from that album (Altered Beast) is "Knowing People" (I can be quite misanthropic at times **giggles**)

Oh, definitely running away with the Tamaki one! That's amazing that a version was done in English. I love the anime theme tunes but sometimes get a bit annoyed when I can only sing along with the chorus lol. And you're right, so very Tamaki *grins*

Isn't it awesome? I love both versions of that song. And Tamaki. ♥&hearts7

Fistly, I must squee a lot over David Bowie. *SQUEEEEEEEEEEEE* I so love him. Golden Years is an excellent song.

I currently have Guilty, Beauty Love in the car. You are right, it's not brilliant car quality, but it does annoy my boss if he's driving with me LOL

Paul Bettany + Naked = WIN [/lust]

Heehee, that movie was so awful, even Paul Bettany all naked couldn't save it. It could make it slightly more interesting, however. That's why I remember Golden Years being in that movie, because I actually perked up watching it.

My old roomie was a Bowie fanatic. I saw him once in concert but got so drunk I don't remember much of it. :(

I will admit it was a spectacularly craptacula film. I did try to like it, but even repeated watchings on tv just don't do it for me!

Alas I have never seen Bowie. My sister has, she was like front row for the Spider from Mars tour, the bitch.

And...yey for drinking at concerts! I did that for the Crue once. The ride home on the subway was eventful and rather...blurry! ♥

Yay Hugs!! ::hugs back:: Good to see you're alive, too. :)

Oh, Bowie. I love the old 70s stuff, especially. Star Man, Oh, You Pretty Things, etc. :) And he still manages to keep himself current.

Hmmm... so then, how about a "B?" :)

*really geeky and non-musical confession*
So, the first time I heard "Golden Years" was as a fan-made music video to Buffy the Vampire Slayer and it made me love that song! :)

Haha, after I read this I kept trying to think of videos that could be made to it. I guess Bowie keeps saying "Angel." ;)
