Comment on this post saying you want a letter - I'll give you one, then post to your journal your five favorite songs that begin with that letter - along with downloads if you like. Or music videos...whatever works. You can also comment without being hit with a letter, never fear!

Given to me by [livejournal.com profile] rroselavy: the letter G!

Wow, at first it was hard finding G songs from my favorite bands, but after flipping through my CDs I rounded up a few! I'm sure there are more and I'll remember them tomorrow or next week or something.

Green Man (XTC). It's no secret that I'm a fanatic for XTC (the band), so I had to include an XTC song and it was just a tossup between about four of them. I chose this one 'cause I figured I'd listen to it before the others, except maybe Generals and Majors. It's so... world-music/ren-faire sounding, as opposed to most of their stuff, which I'd describe as ex-punk quirky pastoral British pop with clever lyrics (which [livejournal.com profile] sharpeslass would describe as "tuneless").

Guilty Beauty Love is Tamaki's song from an Ouran High School Host Club drama CD somewhere. I adore this tune, and it's sooo very Tamaki. I have versions by voice actors from both Japanese and English, but be warned that they were ripped from Youtube and are not bad but are not "car-quality" audio: Guilty Beauty Love (Japanese) (Mamoru Minoru sp?) and Guilty Beauty Love (English). (A note: I thought it was awesome that Vic Mignogna, the English-language voice-actor for Tamaki, took the Japanese song and had it translated and then recorded it. What fan service!)

Girlfriend (Matthew Sweet): I had the hugest crush on Matthew Sweet ever in the 90s and still adore several of his albums from beginning to end. This was his first single, and I remember being thrilled that the music video had anime in it. I stood in line to meet Matthew Sweet at a record store once; it was one of the only times I've ever been star-struck when meeting an idol of mine. I'd planned to look extremely cute and tell him how I worked in a comic store and etc. etc. and instead I stood there and gaped until my friend Shannon talked to him for me and had him sign something. ::sigh::

Golden Years (David Bowie): I have a soft spot for vintage glitter-rock and disco. Think Velvet Goldmine-type stuff. This is an awesome Bowie song, one of my faves and IMHO, the only good part of the movie "A Knight's Tale" is when everyone dances to this song wearing medieval garb. Except for maybe the part with Paul Bettany being naked.

Gold Dust Woman (Fleetwood Mac): Fleetwood Mac was one of my first favorite bands when I discovered music in those pre-teen years. They had a lot of good "G" songs, actually, but I settled on this one 'cause it's awesomely good, Stevie Nicks at her best, and Lindsey Buckingham's guitar is always worth listening to, and the Mick Fleetwood drum beat in this one-- SEXAH.

Yay Hugs!! ::hugs back:: Good to see you're alive, too. :)

Oh, Bowie. I love the old 70s stuff, especially. Star Man, Oh, You Pretty Things, etc. :) And he still manages to keep himself current.

Hmmm... so then, how about a "B?" :)
